Build Others
And You'll Build Yourself
In Return
Build others and you'll build yourself at the same time
- A while back I had the good fortune to see the truth
in this statement first hand. I had been working and
coaching with a person -- together we were exploring
ways to increase the value of their web site.
As we brainstormed what seemed like idea after idea a
plan began to formulate that he agreed would work for
them. I should note here that the person wasn't a paid
client at the time. It was just someone I'd known for a
bit and from what started into a general conversation we
moved on into a brainstorming session.
A funny thing happened about a day or two later. I
received an instant message out of the blue from a
fellow who introduced himself and said that he'd talked
with so and so and was interested in talking with me
about how I could help him.
The result was a client that wanted to retain me for a
brainstorming session. I've had a happy client ever
since. There's no doubt in my mind this was a direct
result of my willingness to freely help another person.
The moral of the story here is pretty simple. Help
others to achieve what they want and before you know it
the word will get out. Often in a BIG way. It's worth
developing the reputation as a person who is genuinely
out to help another.
We give freely of our time not because of what we get in
return, yet it always does come back to benefit us in
some way.
